Day 5

Today went to The Narrows Nature Reserve. We started off by making a field journal to record observations, and data from different activities. Then we went to the nature reserve center. We measured the air, water temperature, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, dissolved oxygen’s percent saturation, and pH of the river. Mostly we walked along a trail that was over 2 miles long. For most of the day I walked on only one trail as my groups plans messed quite often. But, later we figured it out and solved the problem.

I learned many things today, from the importance, and quality of the river to learning about different owls. When we were testing the water quality it was surprising to learn that the water was pure and filtered better than the water we drink. Then in the Preserve center there were really cool owls and they were barn owls. Near their nesting area there was a leaf that contained the design of a bare tree, it was very different to the normal patterns on leaves. There was so much to learn today in nature preserve.

Description Written in Journal :

This tree which has a bent trunk facing the trail. It looks similar to the structure of swing sets and/or bridge with no support on one end. The bark is rough and wet to touch. It has no specific smell except for the soil smell. When you hear it there is slight sound of a bird calling its mates. I chose it because it had a geometrically different shape and it made feel like I went back in time to when I climbed tall trees.
