Into the Woods

Day 4
Today we went kayaking on the Little Miami River. First we wrote a recipe poem based on Emily Dickenson’s “To make a Prairie”. Then we listened to a Ted Talk about listening better, to help us listen to nature more carefully while kayaking on the river. We went kayaking on the river today, and traveled for over three hours. While on the river the surrounding area and everything was really silent.
It was really quiet and this place it gave me the time to think deeply. I had no experience I had to learn all the basics by what I had experienced through the trip. I learned to be persistent in the water, as I got stuck in trees and logs a few times and I had to think quick to get me out of this situation. During my moment of silence today I heard the rapids, water moving due to the oars, and many bird calls. As I floated I saw many turtles, geese, and maybe even a snake. I learned to be persistent, thinking quickly to solve problems that I faced and listen carefully to pay attention to nature. Also, I learned how to kayak today from what I had experienced.

To make a stream it takes a cup of sand
Handful of mud
And pebbles
Tress around the stream will do
If salmon are few
